Nancy McKeon, Born In 1966 – The Facts Of Life
McKeon and her older brother Philip appeared in numerous commercials. She also had roles in the soap operas The Secret Storm and Another World. The McKeon family relocated to Los Angeles in 1975, when Philip landed the role of Tommy Hyatt and began appearing in the television series Alice alongside Linda Lavin.
In 1979, McKeon was discovered for her role as the tomboyish Jo Polniaczek in The Facts of Life, based on her performance in a Hallmark greeting card commercial where she displayed emotional depth. This became her most famous role, portraying the character throughout the series until its cancellation in 1988. She also provided the voice for various characters on ABC Weekend Special animated series, including Scruffy.
After The Facts of Life, McKeon was considered for the lead role in the TV series adaptation of the 1988 film Working Girl, but the role went to Sandra Bullock. In 1994, both McKeon and Courteney Cox auditioned for the role of Monica Geller in Friends, with Cox ultimately securing the part. McKeon expressed no resentment, acknowledging that Cox was the right fit for the role. In 1995, she starred in her own series, Can’t Hurry Love, which lasted one season. In 1998, she starred in a sitcom with Jean Smart titled Style & Substance. From 2001 to 2004, McKeon played Inspector Jinny Exstead in the Lifetime police drama The Division, with her pregnancy incorporated into the storyline in the final year. From 2009 to 2010, she had a recurring role in the Disney Channel original series, Sunny, among Stars, as Connie Munroe, the mother of the main character played by Demi Lovato.
McKeon also starred in numerous TV movies in the ’80s and ’90s, including A Cry for Help: The Tracey Thurman Story and The Wrong Woman. In 2003, she starred in the film Comfort and Joy.
On September 5, 2018, McKeon was announced as one of the celebrities competing in Season 27 of Dancing with the Stars, paired with professional dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy. They were the third couple to be eliminated, finishing in eleventh place.
