Veteran Stars You Thought Were Long Gone but Are Not Even Planning Their Retirement

Carl Weathers – January 14, 1948

Carl Weathers went from playing professional football to becoming a movie star—a transition no one saw coming. But if anyone had any doubts about his ability to pull off an authentic portrayal on-screen, they disappeared after his unforgettable roles in the first four films in the “Rocky” series and “Street Justice.”

Compared to his acting career, Weather’s football career was relatively brief. He began playing professionally for the Oakland Raiders in 1970 before joining the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League a year later. But those days are far behind him. In 2023, he reprised his role as ‘Greef Karga’ in “The Mandalorian.”

Talia Shire – April 25, 1946

Talia Shire is another talented actress best known for her role in “The Godfather” and the “Rocky” film series. But younger fans may remember her as ‘Ida Stern’ in the 2021 drama film, “Romancing Brazil.”

Shire received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in honor of her portrayal of ‘Connie Corleone’ in “The Godfather II” and a nomination for Best Actress for her role as ‘Adrian Balboa’ in “Rocky.” And considering that she’s an aunt to Nicolas Cage and Sofia Coppola, it would seem that a love of the arts runs deep within her family—no wonder she’s remained active since her career debut in the ’60s.
